More than 500 Venezuelan Doctors to Postgraduate Courses in Cuba

Prensa Latina – Sep 9

Caracas, Sep 9 (Prensa Latina) A total of 535 Venezuelan doctors will travel to Cuba soon for postgraduate courses in 31 specialties including surgery, internal medicine, obstetrics, anesthesiology and critical care medicine, announces today the Ministry of Health.

Those physicians selected nationwide for the regional directions of health will benefit from the Cuba-Venezuela specialist training, stated Deputy Minister of Health, Asia Villegas.

Only in a Revolution do our doctors have the opportunity to train and study at the sister Republic of Cuba, stated Villegas, who pointed out that the program includes graduates of Integral Community Medicine, from the 51 Battalion and traditional universities.

For his part, the head of the Front of National Post Graduate Teaching of the Cuban Medical Mission, Aquiles Rodríguez, stated that these courses will enable the training of specialists in branches in secondary or hospital care.

Battalion 51 is the name given to the 51 members of the first course of Venezuelan graduates of the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) in Havana in 2005, and today it includes about 4.000 doctors.
