ALBANY – U.S. restrictions on Cuba are prompting many rallies around the country as the president visits. That includes a rally in Albany.

The goal is to send a strong message to lawmakers.

The group includes “Albany Cuba Solidarity,” which just sent about 20 people to Cuba in February.

These people want an end to the trade embargo that they say has resulted in a lot of suffering for people. They also want the ability to travel to and from Cuba freely.

President Obama noted Cuba and the U.S. still have very serious differences like human rights. Some argue ending the embargo would strengthen the Castro Regime’s oppressive government.

But those protesting the embargo say the people hurting the most on the island are those who have the least. They hope this awkward at times visit keeps both sides moving forward.

The president says he thinks it will only be a matter of time before the embargo is lifted. The question in when. That depends on Congress.
